Train Spotting
Song of the post: Anchor - Beautiful Eulogy
They were an integral piece of the industrial revolution beginning in 1869, they aided and were aided by the development of the telegraph, today they provide the most popular setting for high school senior photos.
In case you have no knowledge of technological history or have never seen a senior photo, what I'm talking about are railroads. I had no need for telegraphs nor any eager 17 year olds to photograph last Friday evening, but I did pull off the interstate at an exit I rarely take to capture the last rays of light over some train tracks. The scene felt desolate, devoid of people while the systematic spurts of exhaust from the trains broke upon the empty air like a warning that they could start running at any moment (I don't understand trains very well, so this may not have been that likely).
With numb ligaments yet again, I crouched on tracks, traipsed through rail side grass, climbed into a signal tower, ventured in the gap between two trains (which felt quite like being the little car on the highway as two semis lock the lanes on both sides) - all to attempt to get a few nice photos. Below are my selections.
Note: It was Friday the 13th, and I, like Michael Scott, am not superstitious but I am a little stitious, so I am thankful no trains hit me or any bizarre events of the like occurred.
